The first run will take place Saturday, December 19th at 9am from Portland Running Company (10029 SW Nimbus in Beaverton). Doors open at 8am for packet pick-up. The course includes some industrial sections of Beaverton, traveling to the Fanno Creek Trail and Greenway Park.
With a mostly flat out and back course and an aid station with water and Glukos Sports Drink, it’s easy to see why this is a popular race series. The first two runs are traditional races, but the last one has a unique spin. The final race will not allow timing devices and participants must guess their estimated time. Those runners closest to their predicted time, win. Whether you’re fast or slow doesn’t matter, everyone has an equal opportunity to win the winter predictor.
Sponsored by Human Investing and benefiting the Sunshine Pantry, participants are encouraged to bring a food or household item for local families in need. Check out the list of requested items and drop them off at a designated barrel on race morning. A great opportunity and easy way to make a difference. Doors open at 8am on race morning to allow time to drop off donations and pick up race bibs.
Post race refreshments will be back at Portland Running Company, including Peet’s Coffee and pancakes or grilled cheese with Dave’s Killer Bread. Participants can stay warm and fill up on post race snacks, made with love, by Paula and wait for race results. The PRC Winter 5k Series is a fun way to stay in shape through the winter and a great way to work on speed. You get familiar with the course and some of the competitors too and, ideally, improve with each race.
