Mini Preview: Vernonia’s 2nd Annual Ugly Sweater Run

Vernonia Ugly Sweater 5k Run December 12th

Vernonia’s 2nd Annual Ugly Sweater Run will take place on Saturday, December 12th at Anderson Park in Vernonia.  Intended to strengthen community bonds and bring people together to celebrate the season, all ages and abilities are invited.  Organized by the Vernonia Area Chamber of Commerce, this event offers a 5k run/walk with a little holiday flair. Register online by November 28th to make sure you get an''Ugly Sweater' race shirt. Prices remain the same, but shirts will not be offered after November 28th, so register early.

Vernonia is a short jaunt from Portland and an opportunity to get away from our usual city loops.  A tight-knit community, this quaint little town takes you back in time and is definitely worth the drive. The course will include a rough gravel section, so it is not a stroller friendly event. Kids ages 12 and under are only $10 and men and women are $20. The price remains the same on race day, participants just won’t receive a shirt. Race-day registration begins at 9am and the run/walk will start at 9:30am.

I run to to clear my mind, keep my sanity and stay connected with friends. I'm still working on teaching our dog, Autzen, proper running etiquette. Half Marathons and Triathlons are my favorite events and I watch a whole lot of soccer.
