Thanksgiving may be the single day of the year with the most races to choose from. Certainly, the November holiday can boast the most races with the same name: "Turkey Trot"!
The Southern Oregon Runners will be hosting their 10th Anniversary Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning at the Jackson County Expo Fairgrounds. Most Turkey Trots are 5Ks, but you can earn another drumstick and extra stuffing guilt-free at this one, because it's an 8-miler! (If you're a light eater, there's also a 2-miler, and a 100 yard Turkey Dash for kids 5 and under).
The course is a very pleasant and mostly flat out-and-back along the Bear Creek Greenway, a paved path taking runners through quiet neighborhoods, parks, and semi-rural areas. Male and female winners of the 8-mile and 2-mile receive trophies, and there are medals three-deep in each 5-year age-group. All Turkey Dash finishers receive participation medals.
An abundance of nice raffle prizes will also be handed out, using the excellent drawn-and-posted-during-the-race format so you call see immediately after you finish if you’ve won something.
There are many Turkey Trots to choose from, but the Southern Oregon Turkey Trot stands out, with its quiet and peaceful traffic-free course, and unique distance.
