Thanksgiving is easily, hands down, my favorite holiday. Why? It’s the one holiday where the only real pressure I ever seem to face is not knowing whether to have a slice of the pumpkin pie, the berry pie, or the chocolate cheesecake. Inevitably, I shamelessly cave and eat a slice of all three. Luckily for myself and anyone else who tends to overindulge on this particular day, there are a plethora of Thanksgiving Day themed races available. The Hood to Coast Race Series and the Oregon Lottery will be hosting their second annual Turkey Trot Run and Walk at the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Wednesday, November 25. This race also features a free 1K kids trot for those ages 3 to 7 years, which means fun for the entire family.
The kids trot will get things started with a start time of 6:45pm while the 5k and 10k races both start at 7pm. Racers will be treated to the sights and sounds of the Sunshine Division Winter Wonderland and will be led through a well marked course full of holiday lights. A pace car, provided by Carr Chevy, and plenty of volunteers will also be on hand to guide racers towards the finish line and the post race party.
Cost to register (from now thru October 25) is $30. After that the price will increase to $35 (thru November 24). Day of race registration will be $45. Packet pick up thus far is TBD, but there is day of race packet pick up starting at 5:30pm. Parking will also open up at this time on race day.
All race participants, runners, walkers, and kids trotters, will be given a finishers medal. Awards will be handed out to the top 3 male and female finishers of each race. An award will also be given out to the best holiday outfit during the post race awards ceremony. So if you were saving that santa suit in your closet for a special occasion, this would be it.
While many of the Thanksgiving themed races take place on Thanksgiving Day, the Hood to Coast Race Series provides runners and walkers with a chance to race the night before the big feast, ensuring that families can rest easy come Thanksgiving morning. After all, eating multiple slices of pie can be a lot of work.
