Race Preview: 3rd Annual Friends of Jordan 5K, 10K and Kids Run

According to Friends of Jordan 5K and Kids' Run facebook page, this will be the last year for this gem of an event that makes my heart ache.  Each year, the race has sponsored a local child facing struggles no one would wish on anyone, yet these brave little children have endured.  You can read about past partnerships, but this year is for a special little boy named Marshal.  Marshal is two years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (or A.L.L.) which is a type of blood cancer that starts in the bone marrow and spreads into the blood stream.  His treatment will involve various types of steroids and chemotherapy and will be ongoing for the next 3 years. The event, though important and making an impact in a local family's life, is a small one.  As of the t-shirt deadline in the beginning of September, the race announced it had just under 50 participants total.  This will add to the charm of the event, no doubt, and I love a small, local race that is sure to have a "small town feel".  This year's goal is 200 participants and to beat last year's fundraising effort of $5,000. Since it will be the last year for this event, I hope it's a big one.  A big congratulations to the race director for her efforts in planning this event the last three years, while attending high school (!!!) and good luck on your next adventures in college.

Each year, we've had ten sponsors who have made the event possible, and because of them, we have had less than $200 in expenses each year. That means that almost all of the income to this event goes directly to the family that we're supporting!

The 5K course will be flat and wind though Forest Grove neighborhoods and downtown.  Both courses are open to wheelchairs, strollers, bikes, scooters…  All ages and abilities welcome to support this cause.

The 10K course is said to be somewhat hilly, but flattens out when reentering the main city.

9:00am Day of registration (cash or check) and packet pickup
9:45am Start of 200M kids’ run
9:50 speech and raffle drawing
10:00am 5K and 10K start
Snacks and refreshments will be available after the event

5K (6 ys to 12 yrs):  $20
5K (13 yrs and up):  $30
10K (6 to 12 yrs of age):  $25
10 (13 yrs and up): $35
Day of registration: add $5 to the above fees.  Shirts are no longer guaranteed.
