Race Preview: 2015 The Great Pumpkin 5K XC

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love seeing how the running community embraces it. Zombie runs and costumed races are plentiful in October. One of my favorites is a local one in Dayton. On October 11th, XDog Events will be at Heiser Farms for a cross country 5K, complete with a costume contest, kids race, beer and food. This is definitely a family friendly event, and there is plenty of activities to do at the farm after the race.

Register soon, as there is a price increase on the 10th! It is currently a great deal at $15, or $10 for those 17 and younger. After the price hike it will be five dollars more. Day of event registration starts at 8:30 and the race will be at ten. The approximately half mile free kids run will follow. Last year they got to chase Batman. There is also a team option for those that can put together a 4 person team and awards will be given to the best male, female, and mixed teams. Awards will also be given to the best nonzombie and zombie costumes.

I have participated in this run a few times and it has always been a blast. Xdog Events does a great job and the atmosphere is always festive and fun. It’s a true cross country course, with very little pavement and great views. There is fun for the whole family after the race, so it is definitely worth the trip for those coming from out of town. So mark your calendar for October 11th and start planning cool zombie costumes for the whole family!
