By description, cross-country is a sport where teams, made up of individual runners, run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain. Courses typically consist of dirt and gravel paths, grassy fields, and murky waterways that are sometimes flat, sometimes hilly. It is also typically considered to be a sport reserved for high school students.
So how would you feel to find out that the ultimate cross-country experience could be yours for a mere $15 bucks and a quick jaunt to Tillamook? The Ultimook Cross-Country Open 5k is offered to high school students and adults, alike, and is coming up in just a few short weeks!
The race will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 8:15 AM, prior to the start of the invitational cross-country meet for middle and high school runners, at the Hydrangea Ranch located at Oregon Coastal Flowers in Tillamook. Registration is on-site the morning of the event and supports the Tillamook High School cross-country team. There is a $2.oo fee for spectators to offset costs associated with the logistics of hosting the event. T-shirts, souvenirs, and concessions will be available for purchase, and camping is available both Friday and Saturday nights.
The challenge of the course, the unique location, the affordable registration, and the easy drive to Tillamook (not to mention the option to spend the rest of the day relaxing at the beach) makes this cross-country race one that you should give a shot! Regardless of whether you’re an experienced cross-country runner, want to relive your high school XC glory days, or have never run a cross-country course but have always wanted to, the Ultimook Cross-Country Open 5k is an XC runners dream!
