Race Preview: 2015 Canby Dahlia Run

Spring of 2013 I first heard of The Canby Dahlia Run.... and although I had never done more than one 5K race at that time, I knew that the half marathon would be on "my list" of must do races.  Well, fast forward 2 years and although I'm currently not quite up to the 13.1 miles I love so much, I am over the moon excited to participate in the 10K distance this year. If you haven't signed up for this event, hurry up!  What is holding you back?!  Runners and walkers are welcome (just please no dogs) and course will be open for a generous 4 hours.

Registration until the 23rd is $45 for the 10K and $55 for the half.  Day of race registration is available (cash or check only) for $50 for the 10K and $65 for the half marathon.

Participants will receive:

  • Chip timed event timed by Uberthons
  • Event shirts (guaranteed for those registered before July 3rd.  However CDR will try their best to have one for those who register after that date)
  • Finisher medal
  • Fresh cut dahlia

If you missed Jessica’s review of the race with details about the courses (a mostly flat race and a trip through the dahlia fields for the half marathoners), parking (and that it will be limited, so please carpool!) and other details, you should also take note that this is your opportunity for your 15 minutes of fame!  Well, I can’t guarantee that it will be for 15 minutes or what the exact details entail, but the crew from the tv series “Portlandia” will be filming at the start line for a future episode…. so come run with us!

I will miss running through the dahlia fields (and the cool race photo opportunities!) the half marathon runners will enjoy, but I am so excited for the beauty the farm lands and wheat fields will offer for the 10K course and the potential challenge with the brief hill at mile 1.5 as runners climb to highway 99E and another brief hill (1/8 of a mile) that should provide a brief and steep challenge just before the 4th mile.  The remaining course for the 10k should be smooth sailing with a 1/4 mile downhill stretch to the finish.  10K course map is here.   Water stations will be available at miles 1 & 2.5, 4, and 5.

Half marathon course description sounds like a set for a movie with the idyllic sights of a country golf course, wooded area and views of the Willamette river.  After venturing through some of the quiet streets of Canby, enjoy your run through 40 acres of dahlia fields.  For a course map of the half marathon, click here.  Water stations will be available at miles 1 & 3, 4.75, 7, 8, 9.5, 11, and 12.
