There aren’t many runs that extend the invitation to our four-legged friends, but Strut Your Mutt 5k allows our furry companions to run and walk along too. Dogs get to participate AND earn a sporty bandana and their human teammates get a technical shirt. The best part is this run/walk raises money for local animal welfare, so you and your dog are helping homeless dogs and cats in the Portland Metro area. Last year, Strut Your Mutt 5k raised close to $49,000 for homeless dogs and cats in the Portland area.
In its 19th year, Strut Your Mutt is a national event with races taking place all over the country. Saturday, September 12th the 4th Annual Portland Strut Your Mutt will start along Sellwood Riverfront Park (SE Spokane Street at Oaks Parkway). The 5k run begins at 9AM and the walk starts at 9:30AM. The real fun will be the post-race doggie- themed festival. With contests, photos, dog treats, activities, entertainment and refreshments, participants are welcome to hang around.
The course is mostly flat and will have some views of the Willamette River and our beautiful city. This is a non-competitive event that primarily focuses on raising money for shelters in the area and having some quality time with ones you love, both two and four-legged variety. Register online, with our without your dog, and sign up as an individual or get a team together. Runners need to register by Friday, September 11th at noon. Day of registration will be available for walkers beginning at 8AM.
