Race Preview: 2015 Boring Marathon and Half – 9/13/2015

Looking for a race that takes pride in being called Boring? Well, look no further than the Boring Marathon and Half Marathon which will be held Sunday, September 13, 2015. The best news about the 2nd annual race is that they have added a handful of other distance options which includes a marathon relay, an ultra 50k, a 5k, and virtual races for all distances. If you prefer a race that supports a good cause, then you’ll be even more happy to know that all non-virtual races are non-profit with proceeds going to the Sam Barlow high school track and cross country teams and the West Orient Middle School track team.

Each race is limited to 200 participants total and 50 teams for the relay(4 runners per team); Registration will close when these numbers are reached. All entries prior to September 1 will receive a race shirt, while entries past this date are not guaranteed to receive one. In other words, sign up as soon as possible! The deadline to sign up for virtual races is also September 1.

Start times for the marathon, ultra and the relay will begin at 6:30a.m, the half marathon begins at 7a.m. and the 5k will start at 7:30a.m. Races will be chip timed by Huber timing, with results available during and after the race. The course is set to stay open until the last runner or walker finishes, but aid stations and traffic control will close after 6 hours.

All races will start and finish at Sam Barlow High School, with routes following trails from the high school to the Boring Station Trailhead Park as well as the Spring Water Trail. Course maps for the marathon and half can be found here. Here are the course maps for the ultra 50k and the 5k. Aid stations will be placed every few miles along the course and will provide water, electrolyte drinks, and food. Portable toilets can be found at the start and finish of the race as well as at major aid stations.

Finishers of the ultra, full marathon, half marathon and relay will receive medals, while the 5k’ers are promised a sweet finishers gift. Awards will also be given to those who place in the top of each age group for all races. The top 3 finishers for each race and the members from the top relay team will receive a certificate for a free lunch at The Celebration in Boring, which takes place in good ol’ Boring, OR on race day.

Important things to note:

Packet pick up will take place at Cat’s Moon Coffee located at 30265 SE Hwy 212 Boring, Oregon 97009.
