Small Race Preview THIS WEEKEND: 2015 Aurora Colony Days 5k

Every time my mom comes in from Utah to visit us, she has one sole request: “We need to go to Aurora.” While this may seem like an odd request to some, those familiar with the small city know exactly why. This small town is chocked full of history, antique-shops galore, and, on Saturday, August 8, a 5k race.

The Aurora Colony Days Run 5k (and Kids 1k) is coinciding with Aurora Colony Days. Due to the small size of the city, the race will be a double loop of sorts on some of the cities main streets, in an effort to keep the amount of turns to a minimum. The race will begin in front of the Aurora Colony Historical Society and head south on Liberty Street. A quick turn onto Smith Rock Ave will happen before heading back north on Main Street. The route will be repeated a second time, with the cut over between Liberty and Main occurring a street earlier. Check out the course map here. The 5k will start at 730a and the 1k at 830a and allow for an enjoyable and historic jaunt for the kiddos.

Proceeds from the run and walk will benefit the summer concert series, which are held Wednesday evenings. Following the races, there will be a fun-filled day complete with parade, outdoor antiques faire, and the summer concert series’ final concert, headlined by the band “Dance Machine” at 7pm.
