Calling all trail runners! It's time to get registered for the Hardesty Hardcore 14 mile or 5.5 mile trail race, presented by Level 32 Racing, which occurs on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. This event is the fourth of six events in the 2015 Run Big Trail Series (RBTS). There is an entry limit/cap, so don't delay in completing your registration for this event. Last year, a friend of mine participated in the 14 miler, and told me I just had to get out there next year. Since I am getting my points in the RBTS under the 'short course' distances, I will not be participating in the 14 miler, as they did, but I will take on the 5.5 mile challenge to get my feet 'wet', so to speak, on the Hardesty trail.

For those tackling the challenging 14 miler, the race will begin at the Hardesty Trailhead, which is west of Oakridge, Oregon, at 8 a.m. The 5.5 mile race will begin at 8:30 a.m, but participants must catch the shuttle that will leave from the parking lot no later than 8:15 a.m. to get to the 5.5 mile start line. The 14 miler has a time limit to complete the race in 4 hours. The challenge presented for the 14 miler is the 3,300 foot climb that will occur in the first 4.5 miles, following by a 3,300 foot descent immediately after. Then, 14 milers will pick up the 5.5 course. The 5.5 miler is considered ‘easy to moderate’ in difficulty, and will feature gradual ascents and descents. Check out the detailed course map to help you decide which event you want to register for.

There will be a good spacing of aid stations available for participants. For the 14 mile event, aid will be available at mile 3, 4.5, 8.5 and 12. For the 5.5 mile event, aid is available at the 3.5 mile point. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female finisher for each distance, as well as the top three in each age group.

Reminder – limited entry into the fourth event of the RBTS, so make sure to secure your spot. I’ll see you out there on September 5th!
