Race Preview: 2015 Bridge of the Gods 10K and Half Marathon

Are you ready to be rewarded with breath-taking views of the Columbia Gorge as you tackle a challenging but well thought out course?  Check out the Bridge of the Gods on Sunday, Aug. 16th.  With the spectacular views,  the half marathon will feature 5 historic bridges and 80% of the course will be under the shady canopy offering cooler temperatures.  Course limit is 5 hours and promises to be plenty of time if you choose to walk on the paved trails and enjoy the views.

The half marathon and 10K will start on the Washington side of the Columbia River and runners cross the iconic Bridge of the Gods.  The bridge is grated and I’ve heard it gives the impression of running on the water.  At the very least, you will have thrilling views as you see the beautiful river below your feet.  After crossing the bridge, participants will continue to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Park Trail.  The course sounds dazzling with the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

There is no parking at the starting line of this event.  Parking is at Marine Park, Cascade Locks and shuttle buses will take participants the 1 mile distance from the Parking Area/Finish to the Starting Line on the Washington side of the bridge. Shuttles will run from 6:00 am until 7:30 am, so you’ll want to plan your arrival with plenty of time to navigate parking with 1000+ others and que up to make the trip over!

The half marathon route features the “stairway to Heaven” about mile 3.5.  Once the half marathoners reach the top, they will be rewarded with shade and the lush views of the old growth trees.  Because of the stairs, strollers are not allowed for the half marathon course, but are okay for the 10K.  Please leave your pooches at home, dogs are not allowed.  The course will have a couple narrow areas on the trail with an out and back portion.

Bask in the triumph of your accomplishment at Thunder Island where an after party awaits with a full lunch for participants and options for friends and family to purchase lunch as well.  Music, vendors and beer garden will transform the island into a post race party!

Finishers receive:

  • Medal for Half and 10K distance
  • Lunch with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options
  • Event t-shirt
  • Professionally chip timed event
  • After party on Thunder Island, so bring a few more dollars for any other goodies and refreshments that might be available.
