I’ve never participated in the Aquafina Butte to Butte, yet I live right here in Track Town USA. One of these years I will definitely run in it so I can give everyone a personal perspective.
There is no race day registration or packet pick-up, so make sure to made room in your schedule to get your packet/bib at the Eugene Hilton on July 1, July 2, or July 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. And, here is something unique. At the packet pick-up on July 2, there will be a Eugene Skinner ‘look alike’ contest, and Lady Liberty will be autographing your bib. Sounds sweet to me! I always love a costume contest (though you won’t find me participating in it, just enjoying the costumes!).
Here is the layout of the 41st Annual Butte to Butte. The USATF sanctioned and certified 10k will begin at 8 a.m. The 10k begins with a trip up Donald Street, which has a pretty impressive hill to climb right out of the starting gates. Once you make it to the top, you’ll cruise to the finish line via a downhill, then a flat trek to the finish line. The 5k (also sanctioned and certified) start/finish line is at Lamb Cottage in Skinner Butte Park (located near Campbell Senior Center). For those participating in the 4.5 mile Mayor’s Fitness Walk, this course will follow the flat portions of the Butte to Butte course, with a start at 43rd and Donald. Aid stations will be present on the various courses for participants. No dogs allowed, but strollers welcome. And teams are encouraged to participate in the team competition.
Pre-race shuttles depart every five minutes from 5th and Pearl for the 10k runners, or 4th and Mill for the 4.5 mile walkers. The first shuttle leaves at 6:30 a.m., and your last shuttle will leave at 7:30 a.m. As the 5k starts at Lamb Cottage, no shuttles will be available to the start line (it is fairly easy to get parked near Lamb Cottage).
There are just tons of awards being handed out at the event. Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall finishers in the 10k and 5k. Age division winners three deep will also be recognized for the 10k and 5k. And, there is prize money! Here is the dish:
In the 10K and 5K: The top three overall men and women will receive prize money ($200, $150, and $100 respectively). The top masters (40 and Over) male and female finishers will receive $100. The King and Queen of the Uphill and Downhill in the 10K will each receive $50 per award. In the 10K, an additional $100 will be awarded to a male or female establishing a new overall course record. Prize money time bonuses in the 5K will be announced shortly.”
