Portland Marathon Clinic Training Run for June 20, 2015

This week’s PMC run is from lululemon Bridgeport, which means a pleasant run through Tigard neighborhoods on the Fanno Creek Trail.

Thanks to the volunteer pace group leaders, runners are able to select the right training pace for their expected race pace. It’s a thing. You run slower at your training runs, plus mid-week speedwork and other runs, and the result is a successful marathon.

These runs are free and open to everyone, the clinic organizers just ask that if you participate, you volunteer one Saturday out of the summer at an aid station for your running buddies.

Starting out from the store, the route heads to Tualatin Community Park, then Durham Park, and up Hall Boulevard to the Fanno Creek Trail across from the Tigard Library. This stretch may be sunny on the return run, at least from the Library back to the river.

The rest of the trail is a good mix of shady sections and sunny stretches, but it’s all pretty nice. Most of the road crossings are low-traffic roads with marked crossroads; the trail goes under both Highway 99W and Scholls Ferry, and there’s a pedestrian crosswalk with lights at Hall near Greenway.

Participants should be prepared with hydration, nutrition, and sunscreen. Even though the run starts at 8 a.m., you’ll need to apply before your start and after a few hours per the directions on your sunscreen to prevent sun damage.

Where: lululemon Bridgeport, 7381 Bridgeport Road in Tualatin (in Bridgeport Village)

What time: The run starts at 8a. Be there no later than 7:45, allowing time to find parking and walk to the store. There is  a restroom there and two on-course.
