It’s time to get registered for the 2nd event (of 6) occurring in the 2015 Run Big Trail Series by Level 32 Racing. On Saturday, April 4, 2015, I’ll meet you at the start line of the Shotgun Trail Blast occurring at Shotgun Creek Recreation Area near Marcola, Oregon. The Shogun Trail Blast will feature four distances to choose from; a 50k, 25k, 10k and 5k. Last year I participated in the 10k, and I will be taking to the start like for the 10k again this year. This race has some mighty fine hills, too, which I just love! Oh – and don’t forget the streams, mud, trees and views, too. Hooray!

50k racers will start at 8 a.m., the 25k at 9:45 a.m., 10k at 9:50 a.m., and the 5k at 10 a.m. Packet pick-up will occur race morning prior to the start of all four races. Ample parking is available at the start/finish line at Shotgun Creek Campground.

Entry fees through April 3rd are currently $50 for the 50k, $35 for the 25k, and $25 for either the 10k or 5k. Race day registration will be available for an additional $5. If you are 17 and under or 60+, you may deduct $5 from entry fees. Want a race shirt? The cutoff for event tech shirts is March 25, and they are available for $12.

Let’s get into the super neat stuff, now – the courses! The starting line is at about 701 feet, with a climb to 1,267 feet. This will result in roughly a 566 feet elevation gain/loss. 50k and 25k racers will be covering multiple loops of nice, single-track trail that runs adjacent to the campground. You will find rock bridges and streams to navigate over, thick woods, and wildlife! 10k and 5k, as well as the 50k and 25k, participants will cover single-track trails north of the Shotgun Creek Campground area. 50k’ers will loop the main 5.2 course 6 times, and 25k’ers will cover it 3 times.  Definitely check out the course maps for the 5k, 10k, and the main loop. Aid stations are abundant, occurring 17 times for the 50k participants, 8 stations for the 25k runners, and twice for both the 5k and 10k participants.

Definitely stick around for the post race celebration in the picnic shelter with the awesome fireplace – there is always a great selection of post-race food and drink at Level 32 Racing events. Also, custom wood medallions will be bestowed upon the top 3 male and female finishers in each distance. (Side note: I am totally jealous of you who get one!) These medallions are absolutely beautiful in person, and so wonderfully unique. Top three male and female finishers in each age group, each distance, will also receive medals. And – everyone is eligible for the random prize drawing items!

I am very much looking forward to hitting the start line of the Shotgun Trail Blast 10k this year. Last year, the event was absolutely excellent, and the course was challenging and beautiful.
