Race Preview: 2015 Camelback Run in Phoenix, OR

If you like hills this is the run for you, the Camelback Run is a 15k, 5k and 1 mile elementary run in Phoenix, Oregon. On Saturday February 28th come out and enjoy a nice backroads run benefiting the Phoenix High School Track & Field Team. This is the 2nd year of the event and this year the out and back 5k and elementary run are new additions to the classic 15k Phoenix running route through the hilly back roads.

The run gets its name from this classic Phoenix running route known to local distance runners as camelback because of the massive hill around the middle of the run. The run starts and ends at Phoenix High School, and goes through the back roads of Phoenix passing several orchards, farms and beautiful country.

The 15k climbs over 420 ft.

The 5k run is new this year and is a nice out and back on Camp Baker Road and many local runners know this route as “the fountain”. For the youngsters (5th grade – K) there is the elementary run which is a mile around the track at the High School, there will be ribbons for the top three combined in each grade and a Phoenix Track & Field branded relay baton for the overall winner.

Packet pickup and day of race registration will be at Phoenix High School near the track from 7:45-8:45. The fun run will start at 8:45 followed by the 15k at 9:15 and the 5k at 9:30. This event is a fundraiser to help the Phoenix High School Track and Field team raise money to help pay for meet entry fees, purchase new throwing implements and jumping equipment, and aid in resurfacing our track. All proceeds will go to the program.
