Spring Fling Trail Run by Oregon Trails Run occurs Saturday, March 14th, 2015.

My goodness I am just far too excited to get back on the trails for some serious trail running adventures for 2015! My race calendar proves to be a healthy mix of both road, trail, and hybrid running events. Oregon Trail Runs is holding the Spring Fling Trail Run at Alsea Falls Recreation Area on Saturday, March 14. You better believe I am going to being there, and then on Sunday, March 15, I'll be at the Shamrock Run in Portland hitting pure pavement! Insanity, insanity, insanity!

The Spring Fling event is the kick-off for the 2015 Oregon Trail Runs calendar of events. I love the name of this race, too; Spring Fling, because spring is right around the corner! For the Spring Fling event, you may choose from the 1/2 marathon event, which is limited to 150 racers, or the 10k or 5k trail run, which is limited to 50 participants for both distances combined. For those of you who ran in the Hell of the Northwest event in November, please note the course for Spring Fling is different; you will not be running on the same course. It’ll be new and fresh!

The courses are a lovely mix of both trails, and gravel roads. This is a classic ‘hybrid’ style trail race, which I love. Some trail races are trails and pavement – these are okay, but I prefer the gravel roads! The gravel element makes for a more traditional trail race. Also, if you haven’t been to Alsea Falls before, you really should consider registering for this event purely to check out the area, and then bring the whole family back to enjoy throughout the entire spring and summer.

Aid stations with water and electrolytes will be located on the course – 4 for the half marathon, 2 for the 10k and 1 for the 5k events. Also, half marathoners will have food/gels available at the aid station(s).

Make sure to pre-register so you can stick around after the race for the post event BBQ (yum)! Also, pre-register to secure your event technical shirt, which is available for $20 until 3/1/2015. Registration prices for the half marathon is $40, the 10k is $25 and the 5k is $20 until 2/28/2015. Definitely get registered ASAP, as the field of participants is limited, and you really don’t want to miss this trail race! I hope to see you there!
