23rd Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Bend, 12/6/2014.

When I first went to the Bend Jingle Bell Run website, I was immediately struck at the title of this run: “23rd Annual Bend Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis“. WOW! Okay, I’m interested! 23 years this race has been run … You don’t see that very often, runners.

Not only is this race rich in history, but it has also been selected as one of the “Most Incredible Themed Races”. And, this race is aimed as a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. My ears are really perked-up now; running for a cause is always really meaningful. It will be super festive , and an awesome way to get into the holiday spirit! And … dogs are welcome to join in on the action, too!

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, December 6, in downtown Bend at the corner of Wall & Newport. Participants may choose from a 5k run or walk or a 1 mile walk, so everyone in the family can participate (just not the cats). You may even choose to “Jingle in your Jammies” and be a participant but stay at home! The race schedule is packed with some awesome events, occurring prior to the race. At 11 a.m. the Ugly Holidays Sweater & Holiday Costume Contest takes place. Awards will be given in the following costume themed group: ugly holiday sweater, best group costume, best adult or best kid’s costume, your loudest jingler, and best dog costume.

Then, at 11:30 a.m., it’s the kids turn to have fun! Kids will get to participate in a fun run with the elves. The race will start at 11:30 a.m. on Wall & Newport, and they will run to the corner of Wall & Franklin. Once there, kids can enjoy their well deserved hot chocolate and cookies!

At 11:40 a.m., the Jingle Bell Run/Walk starts! 5k runners first, then walkers, and last out of the shoot will be participants with strollers or dogs. This will be the start time for both the 5k run/walk and the 1 mile walk.

Registration fees are $30 for the 5k run/walk and 1 mile walk, which includes a long sleeve t-shirt and your own pair of jingle bells. Kids 12 and younger participating in the 5k run/walk or 1 mile walk also receive a long sleeve t-shirt and jingle bells for $20. The Kids Fun Run with the Elves, for participants 10 and younger is free, but if you want to secure a participant long sleeve shirt, you can do so for $15. All kids must register for the Kids Fun Run with the Elves, regardless of if an event shirt is desired or not. And lastly … Jingle in Your Jammies! I mean, how awesome is that?! If you can’t make it to the race, you can still register for $25 and get a race shirt and your own pair of jingle bells, while helping the fundraiser to cure arthritis!

As this race is a holiday tradition in Bend to raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation, there are some very special incentives to those with excellent fundraising numbers. Check out the fundraising incentives for a full list of what may await you for reaching milestones in fundraising. Raise $500 or more for the Arthritis Foundation as an individual participant, and you just received your V.I.P. Tent voucher! Breakfast … private porta-potty … meet other top fundraisers. Sure sounds great to me! You even get an extra wristband to have a friend, family member, or your top donor join you! For team participants, if your team raises $2,500 or more your team will receive a 10×10 tent all to your selves in the team tailgate area. The tailgate area has chairs, breakfast treats, and some other neat additions.

Awards will be presented to the overall top three male and female finishers.

Packet pick-up and late registration will take place on December 4 and 5 at The Center, 2200 NE Neff Road on the 3rd floor, Thursday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Don’t worry, same day packet pick-up and registration is also available race morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Bank of the Cascades parking area, on Wall & Newport.
