Coach Jim’s free marathon training for Saturday, November 8, 2014

Back in 2012, a few months before my daughter was born, I made a guest appearance at one of Coach Jim’s GCB runs.

This week’s run is a tour of North Portland, starting from the Grand Central Bakery on N. Fremont up to the University of Portland and back.

Where: Grand Central Bakery at 714 N. Fremont

When: 8a on Saturday, November 8, 2014 … be there by 7:45a to use the bathroom and get organized.

Mileage: 10 miles

Grand Central Bakery route:

Keep in mind that this week’s run on this route is only 10 miles, so you’ll be turning around with the group just past the University of Portland’s campus. The linked map shows the route extended for additional mileage which will be useful later on in training!

Starting out by heading north on N. Vancouver, this run then travels along N. Killingsworth before turning onto N. Willamette Blvd. At Columbia Park, which you run past at 4 miles and again at 6, there is a restroom.

Grand Central Bakery is gracious enough to let Coach Jim’s group use their restrooms; he asks that his runners thank the bakery by parking on side streets and leaving the parking lot open for their other customers. Of course, it’s always fun to hang around after the run for a snack, too.

Coach Jim’s facebook is a good place to get to know the other group members, and find out who else will be there running at your pace!
