Race Preview: 2014 Newport Bay To Brews half marathon & 10K

Run With Paula Events is hosting it’s inaugural  Newport Bay To Brews Half Marathon and 10K.

The course will begin at Rogue Ales and Spirits and take runners along the bay, through the forest and onto the beach path in South Beach Park. The course is a double loop course. Once for the 10K and twice for the half marathon. This will be spectator friendly allowing friends and family to watch runners pass and cheer after the first 10K loop.
Race starts under the bridge at Rogue and runners will run past the Aquarium and along the bay until Leeks Road, where you turn uphill and hit the trail portion of the race.

The trail portion is promised to be beautiful and scenic. Runners travel uphill for about one mile. Next, runners will find pavement at the water treatment center and a nice downhill to Hwy 101.

Traffic will be stopped for runners to cross Hwy 101 and course will turn into South Beach State Park where participants run until reaching the one mile path that parallels the ocean. At the end of this path the course will proceed to the Jetty and run west for a short out and back on the Jetty Road. Then runners will head home to the bridge.

Repeat for the half marathon. It is promised to be even better the second time around with the many scenic views.

All participants receive a finisher’s medal to celebrate their accomplishment.

The post race festivities for all participants is at Rogue where runners receive a complimentary beer (21+) and can feast on Mo’s Famous Clam Chowder.  (I’d like to mention that Mo’s uses bacon in their chowder.  Running and bacon. Does it get any better?  Okay. I admit I’m a vegetarian.  But it sounds good.)

Entertainment will be provided by The Ben Rice Band, so save some energy to dance!

A technical race shirt is available for all participants, but to guarantee size (or gender specific cut) for your race shirt, make sure to pre register.

About Robin York (146 Articles)
Robin grew up as a couch potato and did everything she could to get out of exercise, until one day a good friend would not stop talking about this fun 5k race she was doing. Finally Robin got off the couch and trained for this "fun" race using C25K (couch to 5k program). After crossing that first finish line, she kept going and became a "runner". After losing 80 lbs, gaining health, a love of being active and setting a healthy example for her husband and kids, she thinks she'll stick with this whole "running thing".
