The fifth race of the 2014 Run Big Trail Series, Autumn Trails Eugene, presented by Level 32 Racing, will occur on Sunday, November 9, 2014 in Eugene. There are a total of six races in the 2014 edition of the Run Big Trail Series.

I participated in this race in 2013, and had a good time running it. I participated in the 6-miler, and it was definitely tough, but the trails were amazing. Eugene is blessed to have amazing trails for running. For the 2014 edition of the Autumn Trails Eugene race, participants may choose to race the 16-miler, 10-miler, 6-miler or 3.5-miler. All race distances are approximately as the trails are organic – however long the trail is for the race you enter, that is the length of the race. I found the 6-miler in 2013 to be just a tad shy of the 6 mile mark.

Frank Kinney Park, located in South Eugene, will be where the start and finish line of the race are. Road-side parking is available, as is same day registration and packet pick-up. I always appreciate same day packet pick-up, and thank race organizers for doing this. The park is conducive to bringing the family to cheer on finishers as they cross the finish line.

Regardless of which of four distances you choose to participate in, each course will start with a loop on the Rexius Trail (bark), and then proceed up the Amazon Headwaters Trail to Fox Hollow Road. The 16-miler includes a nice run out to Blanton Heights and around the south side of Spencer Butte. There is a detailed course map, so please look at this carefully when deciding which race you would like to throw your hat in for. I can attest that the 6-miler was a perfect mix of decent ascending and some incredible descending at the end. For the 16-miler, participants will have 5 aid stations, 10-miler will have 3, 6-miler has 2 and the 3.5 mile race will have 1 aid station which will be stocked with all the lovely things I want on a trail run; water, GU Brew, GU energy gels, KIND bars and other snacks.

Awards will be handed out to the top three overall male and female finishers in each distance. These overall winners will receive a beautiful Run Big Trail Series medallion. The top three finishers in each age group, each distance, will also receive awards – and – two pairs of HOKA One One trail shoes will be awarded in a random drawing.

Registration fees are $30 for the 16-miler and 10-miler, and $25 for the 6-miler and 3.5 mile races. Add $5 bucks if registering on race day, which is available from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Youth 17 and younger, and those 50 and over may deduct $5 from the entry price. Event shirts will be for sale at the event, and there is a limited supply.

Competitive? Check out the current standings of the Run Big Trail Series to see where participants currently stand prior to the Autumn Trails Eugene race. You do not need to participate in previous races to be eligible for placement – but the more races you participate in during the series, the more points you earn and the higher potential for your overall ranking. Here are guidelines if you want more information.

Make sure to get registered for the Autumn Trails Eugene! It’s an excellent trail run for experienced and novice trail runners alike!
