Race Preview: 2014 Flagline 50k and High Alpine Half Marathon

If you’re looking for an ultra marathon on Sunday, September 21st keep in mind the Flagline 50k. As part of the Oregon Trail Ultra Marathon Series, the Flagline 50k is back for its fifth year on the Central Oregon’s high country trails. The race starts at Mt. Bachelor and provide amazing views of the Three Sisters, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor. There is also a half marathon option, called the High Alpine Half, starting at 9am.

The elevation for the 50k race looks challenging; which seems to go hand in hand with the definition of an ultra marathon. Challenging. The half marathon will share a portion of their course with the 50k. There is a total overall elevation change of approximately 1200 feet for the 50k. Thankfully, there will be 5 aid stations throughout the course to give you food and drink to help you power through your run. As for the terrain, this course has a mix of singletracks, dirt roads, bridges, and a creek you need to cross (yes, your feet may get wet).  You will get great views of old growth pine trees and lodgepole forests, some stout climbs, and some above treeline singletracks.
