Alsea Falls Summer Fest is a unique trail run series just outside of Monroe, Oregon, approximately 40 minutes from Corvallis and 50 minutes from Eugene. Held the second weekend in August, runners can participate in the 5k trail run on Saturday, August 9th or pick a 10k or 20k on Sunday, August 10th. The 5k is a unique night run, with reflective trial markers and headlamps are required. Runners need to check in by 8:30AM, with the run beginning at 9PM. On Sunday, August 10th, there’s a 20k at 9AM and the 10k at 10AM. Once again, runners should arrive at least a half an hour before their event to check in.
Water and electrolytes will be provided. Awards will be given for each age division. First place will receive a custom medal and half-off their next Oregon Trail Runs event. There will be a post-race barbecue on Sunday and runners are encouraged to pack their suits and take advantage of the water after they cross the finish line. There’s a section below the falls for runners and spectators to cool off and relax. If water isn’t your thing, just hang out with refreshments and try to win the raffle.
Make it a mini-destination event and camp at Alsea Falls Recreation Area – first come first serve. There is limited cell service, so consider it an opportunity to get away from it all for the weekend. If you’re not into camping, just plan on a morning of peace and quiet along the trails. The course should be beautiful, with 80% trails, 15% gravel and 5% pavement. Events are limited and registration closes on August 7th. Alsea Falls Recreation Area is the place to be the second weekend of August.
