On Saturday, September 6th, hundreds of superheroes will zoom through the streets of Tigard. Some will be adorned in capes, masks and tights; others will be disguised as runners and walkers. But they will all be bravely fighting an evil villain: childhood cancer.
The Hero-Up Half Marathon and 5k is more than just a race. It’s a memorial to all kids that have lost their battle with cancer, a battle cry for all families fighting cancer, and a celebration of all the little ones who have been victorious. And 100% of net proceeds will go towards childhood cancer research.

When: Saturday, September 6, 2014
What time: The half marathon starts at 7:30a, the 5k at 8:30a, and the kids race at 9:30a
Where: Cook Park in Tigard – put please park at Tigard High School. There is a shuttle to the race start area (and back to the High School after the race) or you can walk/run down/up the hill – it’s really not very far.
Register: Online by choosing your race from the race website here – the half is $65 and the 5k is $30. Registration for the kids race “costs” a donation of a new pair of kids pajamas or a new toy. You can also register day of race starting at 6:30a
And a few other details:
The half marathon course uses the trails in Cook Park, Durham City Park, and Tualatin Community Park as well as streets in both Tigard and Tualatin. There are six aid stations on the half marathon course (all with water, two with Nuun), and all finishers will receive a medal. And yes, there are porta-potties on the course!
The 5k course starts out on the same route as the half; with one decent hill – but it’s mainly within Cook Park and Durham City Park.
There are prizes for top finishers in the half marathon and 5k. Both races will be chip-timed by locally-owned Huber Timing.
This is a race that encourages costumes; but they’re not required. Prizes will be given out for the best costumes in these categories:
