Preview: Backpack Run 5k in Tigard

The Backpack Run is back for another year - their 3rd - for a family-friendly run in Cook Park. The run takes place right before the school year, perfect because the backpacks and funds collected are distributed to kids where school supplies are a luxury. To date, they have distributed backpacks full of school supplies in Jordan, Turkey, Cyprus, Morocco, Uganda, the Caribbean, and even right here in the Pacific NW.

Register by 6p on August 15th for the best price – only $30; you can also register DOR for $35. The event includes two kids runs, so your child can run the distance appropriate for them: half mile or mile. Kids that are ready for it, of course, can also run in the 5k.

Cook Park’s paved and dirt trails include lots of shade and beautiful river views. After the race, there will be music, refreshments and face painting.

The first 300 to sign up for the 5k will receive a canvas tote bag. Participants in the kid’s mile or half mile will receive a youth sized t-shirt.

About Kelly Barten (1152 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
