Not only is there a place called Thunder Island, it is home to its very own brewing company. I feel like these two facts alone should be enough to motivate you to sign up for the Bridge of the Gods Half Marathon or 10k. Add to it the fact that bridge runs are just plain awesome, and you’ve got a trifecta of running greatness. This also might just be the bridge run to beat all bridge runs, crossing the Columbia River at Cascade Locks, OR and boasting some of the greatest (and up close) views of the Columbia River Gorge around.
You’ll cross a total of four bridges as well as a hand full of creeks and waterfalls, lest you think you’ll get bored with all the gorgeous green scenery. The majority of the course traces the historic Columbia River Highway to the halfway point, where you’ll turn and head for the Thunder Island finish line, and the after party complete with Thunder Island Brewing-sponsored beer garden.
The half marathon starts at 8 am, but you’ll need to arrive with enough time to catch the bus to the start line (across the river on the Washington side of the bridge). The 10k starts 20 minutes later.
