Race Preview: 2014 Running Wild 5k and Outdoor Skills Challenge

I have shot a gun only twice in my entire life - once during a baseball team-bonding trip in the Northern Arizona forests and once more firing a shotgun at the sky in Canada (boo sky!). Obviously, I am more of a runner than an outdoorsman. However, at the  Running Wild 5k and Outdoor Skills Challenge, held on August 9, the two are combined into one heck of a unique event.

The event is put on by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. They have partnered with Pheasants Forever to have a day filled everything great about the outdoors. Participants will run (or walk) to the trap shooting range where you will try their hand at shooting a shotgun. They will then hit the road again and make their way to the new archery range to learn how to shoot. Finally, there will be a run to the spin casting area before hitting the finish. Runners can also chooses to just run as an option as well.

This event is also family friendly and encourages families to sign up at a discounted rate. If you are worried about safety, feat not as each activity will be facilitated by certified hunter/angler education instructors. All activities will be supervised by ODFW trained volunteers. The proceeds from this event will go towards the 2014 Governor’s Toy Drive Campaign.
