Here is the scoop on this awesome race. The SOB takes place on Saturday, July 26. Start and finish line is located at the Mount Ashland Lodge. The courses, on sweet single track, travel along the famous Pacific Crest Trail and offer some stunning views of Mt. Shasta, McLaughlin, and the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain ranges. Definitely a sight for sore eyes. Total course elevation for the 50k is 4,200 feet, with the 50 miler boasting an impressive 7,000 feet of climbing (yes please! Sign me up!).
Registration fees are very reasonable. Remember that the 15k is sold out for 2014 already, and the 50 miler is very close to sell out, if not already. 50 miler registration is $90, 50k is $50 and the 15k was $25. 50 miler racers receive a t-shirt and ceramic finisher mug with their entry fee. Cowbells awarded to the top three finishers in each distance. And, some sweet extras are included, too for each distance. These are: finisher medallions, excellent course support with super friendly volunteers, fully stocked aid stations, finisher swag and hamburger or veggie burger for 50k/50 miler finishers (15k finisher can purchase for $5). Don’t forget to add, for $17, your reservation for a SOB North Face branded event shirt. 50 miler participants receive one with their registration fee, 50k and 15k participants can purchase. The SOB is a benefit for the following admirable organizations: Pacific Crest Trail Association, Mt. Ashland Ski Area, and the Ashland Watershed Trails Plan.
The course maps are impressive. Check them out – they really speak for themselves; I am salivating looking at them – 50 miler, 50k, 15k. 50 miler starts at 6 a.m. with no early start and 150 person field limit. 50k starts at 7 a.m. with no early start and a field limit of 300. The 15k starts at 8:30 a.m. with a limit of 225 participants. The 15k race is sold out for 2014.
Make sure to check out the travel information on the SOB website. There are a number of option available for lodging, including using the Mt. Ashland Lodge parking lot to kick-back and catch some zzzz’s prior to the race start Saturday morning. Music does start at 5 a.m., so be prepared to be awake at that time if choosing this option. If you haven’t been to city of Ashland, Oregon, you definitely have to check it out either prior to or after (or both!) the event. It’s an awesome city.
So, get yourself registered, let me know how it goes, and I’ll likely be out there racing in this one in 2015!!!
