The last weekend in June is your chance to get the whole family out to take part in a great community event in Scappoose - the Scappoose Boosters Fun Run. Part of the newly renamed Scappoose Summer Fest, the Fun Run kicks off the second full day of festivities honoring our vets and supporting local youth programs.
There’s something for everyone at this race with its 1 mile, 5k and 10k courses. All races will start and end at Veterans Park, with the 10k making a loop around highway 30. Hood to Coast runners may recognize this part of the course since it has hosted many a dark, overnight leg of the relay. As a result, my limited experience with Scappoose includes squinting at portions of it under a headlamp during my second HTC leg. Fun Run promises to be a much more enjoyable, and probably much less perilous, way to take in the scenery and explore the area.
Not only does this race look like a lot of fun, your participation helps the Scappoose Boosters make great things happen for local schools, youth programs, and community centers.
After the race, stick around for the Festival Opening and Grand Parade, or bring the kids along to check out the OMSI exhibits. There will be plenty of ways to make a day of it with concerts, performances, wine tasting, vendors and great options for food and drink to refuel after the race. Find more race information, or register right here, right now.
