Preview: Oregon Senior Games 5k

Oregon Senior Games LogoDid you know Oregon has our very own Senior Games? It’s true. While most of the events are stereotypical “senior” games, I must say that I support people of all ages doing whatever activity they enjoy that helps them get moving. But, since this is RUN Oregon (and not Shuffleboard Oregon – although there is a Shuffleboard competition), let’s talk about the running events. (Click here to see a full rundown of events.)

The weekend of June 21 and 22, 2014, there are two events: A track meet at Summit High School and a 5k run at Riverbend Park. Registration is available online here.

The track meet is on Saturday, June 21 and offers the following running event schedule:

10a: 50m
10:30a: 1500m
11a: 100m
11:30a: 400m
12p: 800m
12:30p: 200m

As well as the following field events:

10a: Hammer Throw and Pole Vault
10:30a: Long Jump
11a: Javelin
11:30a: High Jump
12p: Triple Jump and Discus
1p: Shot Put

The 5k starts at 8a from Riverbend Park on Sunday, June 22. The course looks absolutely lovely … following along the riverbank trails with just two short stretches where you aren’t running immediately along the river. These sections are set up to minimize congestion on the path during the race.
There is a $25 Games Fee for all athletes, plus some additional charges for events.
About Author

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
