Race Preview: 2014 RunFit Challenge – Eugene, Oregon

Crossfit seems to be one of the preferred cross training activities chosen by the running community. If you are one of those individuals that loves crossfit you may be interested in the RunFit Challenge, coming to Eugene on June 7th (this weekend!!!).

Runfit Challenge

Runfit Challenge

Put on by Level 32 Racing Series, the crossfit challenge is a 5k, 10k or 10k relay that is sure to give you a full body workout. The race consists of a 1.55 mile loop with 7 cross training stations spread out along the course. The stations consist of burpees, push-ups, tire-pull (twice), plate carry (twice), and jump rope. The 1.55 mile loop will be traversed twice if you decide to run in the 5k race, or four times if you participate in the 10k. The race begins at Armitage Park in Eugene. The terrain is a combination of paved paths, grass, dirt trails, stairs, roots, curbs, and short inclines with great scenic views along the McKenzie River. When you arrive on race day for the start at 9am, you will be broken into smaller groups. Each group will consist of approximately 20 participants and the start times for each group will be staggered by 10 minutes. This helps to ensure that there isn’t a back-up at the cross training stations.

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers and top three in each age group for both the 5k and the 10k distances. The top three relays and teams in each division will also receive awards. In order to be eligible for an award you need to register in the competitive category. If you don’t want to compete, but want to participate, you can register in the non-competitive category. The difference between the two is the amount of repetitions you need to do at each station, or the amount of weight you need to lift/pull. For example, men on the push-up station in the competitive category need to do 40 reps but men competing in the non-competitive category only need to complete 20 reps.

If you have friends that want to join you in the fun you can either race independently, race in a relay (10k relay), or race as a team. If you join a team the five fastest times of your team members will count towards the team’s cumulative time, for award purposes.
