Portland Marathon Clinic run for Saturday, June 7, 2014

PMTC-logo

Did you know the Portland Marathon Clinic runs are:

  • Free
  • Open to all runners
  • Great for people training for ANY race
  • Great for people training, but not for a race
  • Led by experienced pace group leaders

This is the 10th week of the PMC and this week’s group run offers routes of 12, 13 and 15 miles. The run starts and ends at Road Runner Sports in Tualatin, where there is ample parking, a Starbucks, a Jamba Juice, and a Panera Bread. A note – please park towards the center of the parking lot so the other retailers in the mall have parking for their customers.

This week’s route winds through Tualatin through primarily residential neighborhoods, with a great restroom stop just a few miles into the run. (That’s key.)

Be sure to bring your own nutrition and hydration. If you haven’t found a hydration system you’re happy with, check out the goods at RRS. Even though the Portland Marathon has aid stations at every mile, you’ll want to consider carrying water or an electrolyte drink during your race, especially if the on-course drink doesn’t suit your tummy. And it’s important you try out various systems – a waist pack that holds a 20-ounce bottle feels very different from one that carries multiple 10-ounce bottles, both are a huge difference from carrying handheld bottles – before your race.

You might feel like the mileage is climbing too slowly – you’ve got a long stretch of runs ahead of you no longer than 16 miles – but don’t go overboard! This part of marathon training is all about staying healthy, so listen to your pace group leaders and be sure to refuel and rehydrate after the run.

Here’s the rest of the schedule:

All runs are on Saturdays and start promptly at 8a, so be there by 7:45 at the very latest for instructions and to use the restroom before you start.  Click on the location for a Google map showing you where to go. For directions, click on “Get Directions” and enter your starting address.

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
