Portland Marathon Clinic run for Saturday, May 24, 2014

PMTC-logoBy now, the PMC has been “running” for 8 weeks, and the run for Saturday, May 24 is 10, 12 or 13 miles from Lululemon’s Pearl District store located at NW 12th & Couch in Portland.

Let’s talk about bit about the pace groups. If you feel like you are running too slowly even though you’re with the “right” pace group, talk to your pace group leader, or Patti Finke (one of the PMC founders). Based on your speedwork and experience, you might be able to adjust your goal time. But usually, it’s just because many people training for a marathon run too fast on their long run. The long run is called the LSD – long, slow distance – for a reason. You run it slower than race pace and gain as much from time on feet as you do from the mileage.

Keep in mind there is only one restroom at Lulu’s Pearl store, but you can “go” at Whole Foods. Whole Foods’ parking ramp is also a great place to park without need to add a half mile or more to your day’s run.

Also keep in mind you are running 10, 12 or 13 miles. This weekend’s run will feature some of the best views Portland has to offer as you run along the Willamette. You will definitely need food & drink on the run. If you haven’t started mapping out your race day nutrition strategy, now’s the time to start testing out your plan. (Also, please wear sunscreen.)

After the run, grab something to eat – a snack like an egg sandwich (with or without meat) and fresh fruit is a great treat and will help your body recover. If you’d like to try out a recovery product like Nuun, now is a great time!

Here’s the rest of the schedule:

All runs are on Saturdays and start promptly at 8a, so be there by 7:45 at the very latest for instructions and to use the restroom before you start.  Click on the location for a Google map showing you where to go. For directions, click on “Get Directions” and enter your starting address.
