Get ready for some hills! In this 7th week of the PMC, you’ll be meeting up at Duniway Park, located near the PSU campus in SW Portland.
Do not park in the small lot off Barbur. Parking is only allowed for one hour there, and you will get ticketed if you’re there longer. Also please note that if you make up parking spots in this parking lot, you will get ticketed and possibly even towed. This is not a “maybe I’ll get back before the parking enforcement crew comes by” situation. The City knows when PMC runs from Duniway and is prepared to ticket. And they will!
So, where to park for this run of 10-12 miles starting at 8a on Saturday, May 17? I recommend the neighborhood directly east of SW Barbur and south of SW Hooker. A pedestrian light at SW Hooker will stop traffic for you to safely cross SW Barbur, where most vehicles are cruising along at 40+ MPH. Stay safe, please.
There are a few restrooms near the track, and restrooms on Terwilliger along the route. Be sure to bring your own water, energy drink, and snacks for the run. I once carried a banana for 8 miles because I really wanted one that day. I got a few funny looks and plenty of comments, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get the starting line on race day!
Please thank your pace group leaders after the run, since they are doing this as a volunteer to help you cross the 2014 Portland Marathon off your list!
You’ll have to drive somewhere for a post-run snack, or you can bring something along to eat after your run. It’s vital to eat some protein and carbs within 30-45 minutes after your long run, so either bring something or make plans to make a pit stop!
Here’s the rest of the schedule:
All runs are on Saturdays and start promptly at 8a, so be there by 7:45 at the very latest for instructions and to use the restroom before you start. Click on the location for a Google map showing you where to go. For directions, click on “Get Directions” and enter your starting address.
