Race Preview: 2014 Santiam Hospital Fun Run (8k/5k/3k) in Stayton

santiam-hospital-fun-run-logoIf you live within a 30 mile radius of Salem, and don’t already have a race planned for June 7, there is literally no reason why you shouldn’t sign yourself up for the 25 Annual Santiam Hospital Fun Runs in Stayton. The day’s festivities include an 8k, 5k, and 3k and costs $5 ($15 if you want a shirt). Yeah, you heard me – $5!

I have ran this race in the past, and you won’t be disappointed. The race each year gets a huge turnout with a combination of elite speedsters and novices alike (nearly 650 runners attended last year). The course is relatively straight forward, but I can assure you it is not as easy as it seems. For a small race, I can say that the 8k presents some challenging climbs. Here is an excerpt from my previous running:

I can tell you from past experience to be prepared for a pretty good hill on each distance (and 2 in the 8k), specifically at 28th Avenue and then again along Fern Ridge Road. There is also a pretty good climb to the finish along Pine Street, so keep a little energy stored up in your tank.

There will be coffee, scones, smoothies, and fruit post-race. There will also be live music, bouncy houses, and facepainting as well. It’s a little something for everyone.

When: Saturday, June 1, 2013
What time: 9a
Where: Santiam Hospital
Register: Online here or mail-in; $15 ($5 without shirt), $20 DOR ($10 without shirt); $40 for family of 4+
