Race Preview: 2014 Fallen Trooper Memorial Run (10k/5k/CrossFit Team) at Champoeg Park

The 3rd Annual Fallen Trooper Memorial Run is back again at Champoeg Park on Sunday, June 1. This charity event helps to raise the remaining funds for a physical memorial to be created to honor the men and women of The Oregon State Police who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

To date, 33 men and women have laid down their lives as part of their duty to make Oregon a peaceful and safe place for citizens, visitors, and businesses. The last 2 year's events have raised a lot of money and this year is expected to push things over the edge.

Significant progress has been made in the fabrication of the memorial; the plaques, map of Oregon, benches, and stone pillar have been completed.  The artist in charge of hand-crafting the memorial is now focused on completing the actual wall and is approximately 70% done.  What this means is the memorial wall is on schedule to be completed and dedicated on August 1, 2014!

The memorial wall is being hand-sculpted by a skilled Portland artist from basalt rock mined from Eastern Oregon. Neat stuff. Check out the project here.

There will be a 10K and 5K, kids 1K run and a CrossFit team relay event. The 5k and 10k courses are out-and-backs near the banks of the Willamette. This is a familiar trail for those who have ran in Champoeg Park before. The Crossfit course consists of a 3K out-and-back, covered 6 times (once per each team member) for a total of 18K.

Following the race, there will be a BBQ with drinks and dessert for only $5!
