New 4th of July race will run in front of the crowds at Ft. Vancouver

In case you missed this announcement from locally-owned running store Fit Right, there’s a new race scheduled for this year’s 4th of July:

Firecracker Four Miler

When I first heard about the Firecracker Four Miler at Ft. Vancouver, I thought to myself, “I can’t believe no one has done this yet!” It makes perfect sense … a night race on the most spectacular night to be outdoors, at one of our area’s great race venues – in front of cheering crowds on closed (safe) streets. And, of course, right before an amazing fireworks display!

The race registration includes a ticket to the Ft. Vancouver fireworks show, so keep that in mind when you check out the prices – and register by June 1 to save yourself a lot of moolah. If you sign up by 6/1, it’s $40 for the 4-Miler. On June 2 it jumps to $55 and starting June 25 it is $75. Registration also includes a race shirt and a post-race beer for those 21+ with your ID. There is a bag check too – which is vital at a venue like this.

So, now you know! There are, of course, many other 4th of July race options, but none of them run at night. Why not run one in the morning (like the Molalla Freedom Run 5k – which won Best July Race in last year’s Run Oregon reader’s poll) and then head to Ft. Vancouver that night?

The vitals:

When: Friday, July 4, 2014

What time: 5:30p (Yes, a night race)

Where: Ft. Vancouver – “on the access road between East Evergreen Boulevard and East 5th Street.”

Register: Online here by June 1 for $40. There is also a $5 kid’s race – no price increases for that one.
