With race season getting started, I try to take the off-season to really think about my nutrition choices and what hasn’t worked for me in the past. Beyond that, it’s all about palatability and price.
Last week I went out to Leif Erickson to do my 9-miler and decided to take the samples of Ignite Reload Energy Gels that I had. I tried out the Wildberry flavor which is 110 calories and made from organic brown rice syrup. This is a gel, but was so much more easy to get down than traditional gels that I have tried. The consistency is closer to a syrup that is gel-like and I thought it had a perfect pop of sugar that didn’t feel over contrived. I was able to consume the gel without taking any extra water – which is a rarity for me when consuming gels. What I especially love about this brand is that there is no preservatives or processed sugars. After I consumed my gel, my stomach was not churning and I felt a renewed sense of energy. That run has been my strongest run all season and I think its because of the clean energy of the gel.
I have also been recovering with Ignite Naturals InRefresh Electrolyte powders. My family and I have tried the Dragonfruit Lemon Lime, Tangerine Passion Fruit, and Blueberry flavors and love them all. You just mix up your powder with 8oz. of water and you’re set to go. I especially love the Dragonfruit Lemon Lime flavor and really appreciate that this product is 100% plant-based, non-GMO, Vegan, and gluten free. InRefresh is not overly sugary or cloying, which is usually a downfall of replenishment drinks for me.
I am really excited to see Ignite Naturals on the market and believe that their commitment to plant-based products will help them go far. I would highly recommend you trying out this alternative to the other guys out there if you get a chance.
