Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival Preview

2014-PC-medal-with-ribbon-croppedLast year I set a goal of completing an Olympic Distance Triathlon in 2014, and I am so excited that it will be during the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival in Sunriver June 29th. Produced by AA Sports, Pacific Crest has so much to offer competitors during the weekend long event starting Friday June 27th and ending Sunday June 29th.

The festival starts off with the Tour de Crest rides on Friday and ends with a 10K run on Sunday. Sandwiched in the middle are kids splash, peddle and dash events, 5K, 10K races, half and full marathon races, a long course tri, endurance tri and Olympic tri and du. I have spent several (bordering on obsessive) hours checking out the course description specifically for the Olympic Distance event. The swim is straightforward enough: open water, elbows and feet all over the place. The bike says there’s just one elevation climb of significance but that it is mostly flat and rolling hills. Rolling hills can be left to interpretation, jussayin’, so I am little nervous about that!

The 10K is listed as “mostly” flat, which can also mean “slightly” hilly, but I suppose I’ll not even consider the hills much of an obstacle as much as I’ll be trying to finish so I can see my family again! If you would like to preview the course, CLICK HERE.

If you want more information on all the other events, CLICK HERE as their website is very informative and well organized.

My kids are also planning to participate in the kids event on Friday after we arrive in Sun River and I am very excited to report (again) that MY favorite band, Hit Machine, will be playing both Friday and Saturday night during the Festival in the Village. Can’t wait to dance the night away with my little family.

I would definitely say that participating in this event could definitely be a great family adventure. Organizers expect the festival to sell out, so if you are thinking about registering, you might want to bite the bullet. From now until May 31 you will get the lowest registration fees for all events.
