This is the pedestrian detour for the Thurman Bridge closure. The red routes are "not recommended" - use the route marked in green. Click for a larger map.
If you like to run up Thurman to Forest Park, or drive to park near the Leif Erickson trail head, read this and share it so your friends are in the loop:
From a press release issued by the City of Portland:
"The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that repairs and restoration of the historic Thurman Street Bridge will require a complete closure of NW Thurman Street between NW 28th and NW 32nd avenues from Tuesday, April 1 through Labor Day, all hours, all days."
The release goes on to state that the bridge will be closed to all users, including pedestrians and bicycles. The closure includes the stairs that go from Thurman to Lower Macleay Park.
Vehicles will need to take this detour to get up to the Leif Erickson gate parking area. Click for a larger map.
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
