As I posted in my recap of the St. Pattie’s Day 10k/5k in Sisters last week, there is another race coming up in this small town that I am very seriously making the trip over for. The Sisters “Better Half” Marathon, held on Saturday, April 26, actually offers more than its name would lead you to believe.

First of all, the race is essentially a half marathon. However, since the course is a single 6.55 mile loop, there are also options to do a 1/4 marathon. Those wanting the half marathon distance will complete 2 loops.  All events start and finish at Village Green Park in downtown Sisters, and use many of the smooth, paved paths around town as well as residential streets.  There will be mountain views as well. Check out a course map here.

The name “better half” may lead you to believe that this is a female-only or female-centric race. This is definitely not the case and it’s actually more about running with your friend, partner, or significant other more than anything. Aside from being able to complete a 1/4 or half by yourself, there are three relay options where each team of two runners would complete one 6.55 mile loop. The categories are:

  • The ‘Better Half’ (male/female partners),
  • BFFs (female/female partners),
  • Man Crush (male/male partner).

There will be two aid stations on the loop, plus an additional aid station for half marathoners on their second loop.  Aid stations will have water, Gatorade and gels.

There will be prizes for winners of all categories. In fact, all finishers will receive an engraved pint glass and a free beer from Hop ‘n Bean who will be at the race providing great food and two taps of beer.  Overall winners and division winners will receive an engraved growler and a ticket to have it filled at Hop ‘n Bean.  There will also be raffle prizes available to all participants, including massages and rodeo tickets.

Proceeds will benefit the Sisters High School Swim Team. Follow the race on Facebook for updates as well.
