Race Preview: Corvallis Half Marathon
This year’s race will be on Sunday, April 13. The event, now in its 4th year, brought in 1500 participants in 2013 to run around this campus town and experience all the city has to offer. The course will take runners over covered bridges, over to Bald Hill Park (the site of some other fun and challenging races), through the OSU campus (suck it up Duck fans), and a finish on the 50-yard line of Reser Stadium. It will feature both city and rural running on an entirely paved course (roads, bike paths, and sidewalks combined). The course is pretty darn flat too, with a couple gradual climbs and descents along the way. Regardless of its flat nature, there will be 6 water stations along the course.
Registration fees will get you a short sleeve tech shirt, race socks, medal, and post-race food and beverages (from Block 15 Brewing). There are a variety of divisions to enter, including Clydesdale (+200 lb males) and Bonnydale (+175 lb females), and elite runners divisions.
There are some other cool things going on at the race as well. There is money to be won, as a total purse prize of $2500 is in play! The race will also feature two different shoe recycling options. Shoes in good condition will be donated to be reused for those in financial need. Your old beat up ones (come on, you know you have at least a couple of pairs), will be recycled with Nike’s shoe recycling program turning them into track surfaces.
