Race Preview: McKenzie River Half Marathon in Eugene

McKenzie River Half Marathon The 2014 McKenzie River Half Marathon is just 2 months away, so if you are planning to run this one you've got 2 things to do.  First, get focused on that training.   Second, register soon.  

This event is limited to just 500 participants.  You don’t want to miss this half marathon, because according the the race website, this riverside race  is “One of the most scenic runs ever!”  After visiting the website and looking at the course map, I’m tempted to try and squeeze this one into my spring race schedule.

“The course winds it’s way through the Hayden Bridge neighborhood, before heading out onto Old Mohawk Road, McKenzie View Drive, and then a glorious finish in Armitage Park.” –McKenzie River Half Marathon website

Expect the first five miles to be mostly flat, the middle six miles as gently rolling, and the final two miles completely flat. The course will be open to traffic so you may want to avoid bring strollers or animals. This point to point race requires runners to park at the finish area – Armitage Park in Eugene – and then take the shuttle to the start line at Emerald Dance Center in Springfield. Make sure to check the race website for the shuttle schedule.    The course will have 6 aid stations with water, Gatorade, and ClifShots available.

Time:  9:00 AM

Start Location:  Emerald Dance Center, 2050 Yolanda (Springfield)

Finish Location:  Armitage Park, 90064 Coburg Road (Eugene)

Entry Fees:  $50 through February 14,  $60 February 15 through March 22. (Age 60 & over and 17 & under deduct $5.)   Day of race registration – add $10     Long-sleeve tech shirts are available for an additional $10.
