Whether you live in Central Oregon or are planning a mini-vacation to Sunriver over President’s Weekend, you might want to consider running the 4th Annual Run for Chocolate 5K Run/Walk at the Sunriver Resort on February 15, 2014.

I am a big fan of chocolate, running and Sunriver so in my book this event is a trifecta of awesomeness!  The entry fees are very reasonable, $25.00 per Individual (if registered by Sunday, February 9th) and $35.00 at packet pick up on Friday, February 14th and day of the race.  Even if you decide on the fly that you’d like to run or walk, it isn’t going to break the bank.  Leaving you plenty of money for more chocolate.

Not only is the event affordable, but the race entry fee Includes a Chocolate aid station (with water AND chocolate), a commemorative finisher prize for each runner and walker, chocolate treats and other favorite finisher food items at the post race celebration. They had me at “chocolate aid station”.

According to their website the scenic and flat 5K course will start in front of Sunriver Resort Lodge and follows asphalt bike paths passing by the Great Hall, Sun River and Meadows Golf Course, and returning to the finish line at the Merchant Trader Lawn in back of the lodge.

If you’ve never been to Sunriver you should know that everywhere in the resort is scenic!  The miles will fly by as you take in the scenery of tall pine trees, gorgeous manicured golf greens and the occasional deer along the route.

This event is USATF Certified and chip timed, stroller and dog friendly, too (all dogs must be on a leash).  The weather in February in Sunriver is typically winter-ish so be prepared for the elements.  Race organizers recommend Yak Trax if the conditions are either snowy and/or icy.  Good tip!

The registration fee does not include a race shirt, but commemorative 2014 Run for Chocolate technical Tee-Shirts are available for $15.00. Race organizers are guaranteeing sizes if ordered by Sunday, February 2, 2014. Shirts are come in both Male and Female sizes, and a limited number of shirts will be available race weekend.

There’s also a pretty fun Finisher Celebration in the Lodge with coffee, hot chocolate and other chocolate treats.  Race organizers also have prizes for overall Men, Women and Masters Men/Women and place ribbons for First, Second and Third place, male and female in each age division in 5 year increments.

The beneficiaries of Run for Chocolate are La Pine High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Athletic Programs.  There are no refunds, deferrals or transfers allowed as all net proceeds go to the beneficiary.

This sounds like an all-around fun event, with a great cause in a beautiful location.
